Happy to announce that my HOMEMADE RASPBERRY PI 3B CLUSTER is readdyyy!!!!! This is a very good project for those who are looking forward to hosting their own website locally on their home server 🔥 This server has 2 gigs of ram and is pretty awesome if you are serving small projects or maybe small webApps. Additionally this server can be equipped with thermal cooling and with temperature controlled fans to make the server stay cool as it can work 24/7. Nevertheless I'll also be uploading a full step by step tutorial after some time 🔥💪

Since my last update, I did a few things: • Worked on my desktop-transferred version of the raycaster to make it multithreaded and rendered a really nice 1080p image to finish the book. This is still the exact same raycasting code from the calculator but modified to run in one process per thread and merge the images in the end. I tried to mimic the ending scene they have in the book. This is the first image attached. • Worked on my calculator version to make it progressively render images so I can pause it at any time and have a nice-looking image. I thought this would be simple -- store the accumulated color of every pixel in a list, add to it, and divide by the total samples each pass. However, the restricted environment I'm working with is starting to show. It turns out that Python code is only allowed an extremely small amount of memory -- around 20KB from my testing. This meant that, no matter how I stored the data (unless there's some magical way to losslessly and efficiently store a color per pixel that I'm unaware of), it ended up being a tradeoff of either rendering at full resolution and not using this new feature or rendering at quarter resolution. Overnight, I did a quarter-resolution render, and I'll probably go back and do a full-resolution one without the new progressive system. However, the quarter-resolution render still looks great! It intentionally has a pretty aggressive depth-of-field, so the blurred left and right spheres are expected. It's cool that stuff like this can be done on a calculator (and programmed on a calculator)! The second image is a screenshot through my fixed libnspire and the third is the same image on the calculator's screen. I've been doing a scrapbook post for every hack session (and often doing work without a hack session), so I misunderstood the proper flow there... However, consider this my true "ship" of this project idea. I'll probably keep adding to it with concepts from the later books, but I also have some other projects I'm excited to work on!

Today was my birthday! I started easel for #building-programming-languages today, but I don't have much to show for right now. Day 1 of #15-days-in-public: I started my #cider project. I downloaded and familiarized myself with Xcode and Swift. Who knew Swift is actually pretty cool? I made myself a menu bar that goes to different pages. I also drew out on paper my visions for the app.

During #hack-hour, I have decided to make my own personal website. Where I made my home page with a cool texting animation. Then I made a project section to display my past projects. During this time, I coded animations for my nav bar and the blocks for my projects. Note: I haven't done my project part but just need to use almost the same code for the rest of the project sections.

Personal website ship! 🚢 My old website was messy, overcomplicated, and although it looked somewhat cool, it was hard for someone to actually read. I've been wanting to refresh my website for a while now. I was working on v2, which is very similar in design to v1, with some tweaks. However, due to the complexity of the site, I got burnt out and put it aside. The past week, with the motivation from #hack-hour, I decided to pick up and finish something. I started over from scratch, this time focusing on content, simplicity, and accessibility with the new skills I've learned since. I've only worked on v3 for 5 hours. ... and it's shipped! :partyparrot: :partyparrot: :partyparrot: Check it out: samliu.dev It's nowhere complete, but there's a good start. The simplicity allows me to start building content. I want to start a blog. P.S. I've attached screenshots of previous versions in the thread if you're curious!

#hack-hour time! I worked on a group generator project today! The idea is to have a simplified flow for teachers to store their class lists, and generate random groups in a few clicks. Everything is store on-device, so data security is there. I added some cool features today. Exporting & importing, pinning & ordering, and some QOL stuff here and there. There's no repository yet as my group just worked on it in replit.

First day of school back from spring break freedom but yesterday when I was in break still , I was looking at me 3 raspberry pi’s I have , one is a b+ 2017 version ( I brought it to leaders summit) , wanted to do some cool stuff with it and decided on building a retro pie, with built in cooling through some fans and heatsinks and retro controllers and case , and I have some amazon gift cards from my bday and earlier stuff so I’m planning on using that all for this , it’d be pretty good to have a retro console i put together.

Electronic Piano PCB ordered! Jam coming soon™. The gold/silver/circular pads are surfaces connected to capacitive touch sensors (they detect your finger by how it forms a capacitor with the circuit). I have different layers on those to experiment with which finish works best for touch detection in this design. But whenever each key detects touch, it allows the capacitor of the 555 timer (a frequency generator) to be charged at a rate determined by the variable resistor for that key (the potentiometers are at the top). Those potentiometers can be tuned to allow for different frequencies for each key. Then, the 555 timer outputs a signal into the speaker circuit, which you can then hear! What are your cool name ideas for this PCB? The best suggestion gets to be the jam title!

day 2 of #bci! today my goals were to get the hang of using kicad, understand the schematic of openbci's cyton board (which is, along with hackEEG and piEEG, the basis for a lot of our understanding of what exactly happens in EEG boards) and spin up a bill of materials for everything going in our pcb. i got to the first two and didn't do the last one (although i will eventually get to it!), but i had a lot of fun! today was another great day because this is the most fun i've had in a while building shtuff (among other things: deciding who would be who in the openai drama, the f*ckboard, dinner at steve). tomorrow's goal is to spend the whole day just building the actual pcb (and then spend thanksgiving off?) we're building this out in the open so my daily notes are all here: cloud-ckujstd4d-hack-club-bot.vercel.app/0jc_0e4ee6c5e5e546ce910bda3e3ad2ac10.pdf (this is part of #100-days! join us over there, we're working on cool stuff like #apocalypse and #dallas-day-of-service!)

day 1 of #bci! i mostly got caught up on a bunch of things today (including, but not limited to: parts of the brain, eeg concepts like the 10-20 system, reading schematics, understanding what exactly we’re doing including the process of actually designing the eeg circuit: electrodes -> ads1299 (including digital to analog converter) -> microcontroller -> computer for extra processing - so many black boxes we’re trying to figure out!) and generally feel like i’m ready to start playing around with kicad/observing tomorrow! today was a great day overall, although we think we could have focused a bit more and it still feels like i don’t know anything. tomorrow’s goal is to build shit which is the easiest way to understand stuff. we're building this out in the open so my daily notes are all here: cloud-6crgvlqrj-hack-club-bot.vercel.app/0jc_e4acbe3e3aff48778866059bb21c78be.pdf (this is part of #100-days! join us over there, we're working on cool stuff like #nanowrimo and #polyglot-warriors!)
