My cat's automatic litter box recently stopped working and it's around 300$ for a replacement which we were thinking of doing. I thought I could take a look at it and see if I could try to fix it. I initially thought the motherboard traces were corroded and not making contact so I tried to reflow the solder but no luck. The motherboard and microcontroller pre-installed had no documentation or help guides other than contacting the company to buy a replacement. I decided to try if I can use a Wemos D1 Mini ESP8266 microcontroller to control it, and after many hours (6) later I present to you a polarity switching circuit using 3 SPDT relays, a step-down buck converter to convert the 18V power from the built-in power on the cat litter to 12V the relays could use. Then after a lot of trial and error I found the perfect transistor (2N2222) in my transistor kit to convert the 3.3v logic levels from the ESP8266 to the 12v or something that the relays can use. Some of my trouble could be avoided if I used the correct DPDT relay modules meant for this, but this is all I had on hand. It's not quite finished since I still need to hook up the 2 sensors and 2 end stops to make it safe of course, but it's coming along and now the hard part is down. In the end, I'm going to open source a schematic design and order a PCB to contain everything.

Day 27 of #100-days-in-public. Today I spent time getting my react site to compile. Originally it was set so that you have to specify a directory it is going to run in but I managed to change that to the ./ directory so it can run in any direction. I also added some instructions for the user. Tomorrow I am going to work on getting it up on my website and shipping it. After I ship it I think I may try to incorporate an interaction library like MUI or EUI now that I am more familiar with react. On another note, I got my fudge from #10-days-in-public!

Day 26 of #100-days-in-public. I want to take a bit of a different approach on my #scrapbook today. Currently my Gemini based rug game is in a state where I am considering #shiping it but have an idea of one last feature that will require me to modify some of my code to create, and make it much more original. I think I may ship the current version tomorrow and then continue working on the last feature. Today I had a bit of a realization why react is such a good framework. Basically, my goal is to have a text box pop up when the user needs to enter their api key and not show up if it is already in the URL(see yesterdays video). The beauty of react is that I can do this very simply in one element by simply detecting if they need to enter a key, and if so returning a different piece of HTML. If they already have a key then I can simply return nothing and nothing pops up. With React I can just throw this element in anywhere and it just pops up when it needs to and disappears when it is not needed. Also, React allows me to easily modify page layout, say for example if I wanted my chat box to be below the input I can do that with swapping one line of code.

I am struggling a little to think about how I want to get the onboarding flow to look. day 1 of #bci! i mostly got caught up on a bunch of things today (including, but not limited to: parts of the brain, eeg concepts like the 10-20 system, reading schematics, understanding what exactly we’re doing including the process of actually designing the eeg circuit: electrodes -> ads1299 (including digital to analog converter) -> microcontroller -> computer for extra processing - so many black boxes we’re trying to figure out!) and generally feel like i’m ready to start playing around with kicad/observing tomorrow! today was a great day overall, although we think we could have focused a bit more and it still feels like i don’t know anything. tomorrow’s goal is to build shit which is the easiest way to understand stuff. we're building this out in the open so my daily notes are all here: cloud-6crgvlqrj-hack-club-bot.vercel.app/0jc_e4acbe3e3aff48778866059bb21c78be.pdf (this is part of #100-days! join us over there, we're working on cool stuff like #nanowrimo and #polyglot-warriors!)

tuning live paint filter in blender to be closer to what i want- now that I better understand the parameters, ive been able to preserve sharp edges and smaller details, while also removing a lot of noise caused by randomization of the brush color value. I don't think this is it just yet though- the light still looks pretty 3d rendered. This will come down to just placing lights better, and improving the shaders I'm using (maybe i should try to introduce blended banding/posterization?) regardless, this scene is still extremely barren. messing with textures is fun, but I need to improve the scene more. need to watch some the first episode of Mobile Suit Gundam and take notes, plus figure out more sources of reference for this particular problem. maybe some 80s SoL? Urusei Yatsura and Sailor Moon may both be valuable in this case. and Bubblegum Crisis! (been needing an excuse to watch that) #100-days oh yeah this is for my animated short project lol

today's scrapbook post is a little bit abstract as i don't have anything to "visibly" show (i cant just leak movie scripts lmao) but Ive come to a sort of impasse in the writing process. Our plot involves multiple conflicts, from existential to personal, and explores the consequences of idolization, climate change, and the worship of technology. these three themes clash with one another of course, since a film only has so much screen-time, but then begs the question of what is most important to speak about. When I wrote the initial plot for this movie, climate change stood at the forefront of my mind, with idolization 2nd and tech worship 3rd. That was almost two years ago. the existential horror of climate change still scares me, but no longer plagues my everyday thought in the way the other topics too. as a result, I have provided band-aid solutions to the storyline as my view on life has changed. This has created the problem where I find myself solving problems that I did not realize existed with the plot, only for new problems to rear their head. it's sort of a wack-a-mole game with plotholes. NOT FUN. I have gotten to the point where we had to ask ourselves, what even is this movie? what are we trying to say, and what do we think will come of the world? after endless deliberation, that question remains unanswered, , , which i guess i shouldnt be suprised by lmao. its an issue to solve- but after some thinking. I would rather tell a story that has a cohesive opinion than one strapped together over the years.

T-73 days until Orpheus wins! 📚 Today, I completed the current challenge by collaborating with @KaraMassie to make our "read lists" longer (This is day two, since I briefly mentioned it in my last post!) I finished my book, His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik today, and it was so good! I can't wait for the next book to be available at the library for me. Tomorrow, I'll pick up another book that I've been wanting to read. :esperanto: I made it to sapphire league on :duo: Duolingo! Yay! I've also put a textbook on Esperanto on hold from the library. This particular book is held with high esteem in the community and I've had experience with some of its content as well... Its very well written! 🏫 I wrote a letter (Right-center) to someone in order to complete an assignment for my english class. The handwriting is... Let's just say it's not my best work. ✍️ I started writing the last scene of my second chapter. Gotta keep cranking through! I also wrote some song lyrics and poetry that's probably not going to get shared, but whatever. Since today was my writing club, we had some fun creating random story ideas, such as a horror novel about walmart employees trapping customers in the self checkout area and making them go insane from the machine saying "Please scan item then place item in the bagging area." Not only that, but there was even some classism involved! Fun times! 🏋️‍♂️ I'm not sure if I mentioned this in my first post for #100-days, but I'm trying to just be more active/healthier. I went for a walk outside and I have some stuff I'm going to do before I go to bed tonight. 🎼 I got the general concept for and first few lyrics of a twisted version of "Love Story" by Taylor Swift. It's meant to be from Romeo's perspective and ends with... Well, y'know, death. I think it sounds fairly good so far and if enough people peer pressure me ask me to share it, I may send a snippet. That's all for today. Keep on scrapbooking, and remember to support the Orpheus house!

🎨 got the interpreter to detect actual words now. its not regex or anything (though i think i'd like to figure that out) and requires very rigid inputs, but i can pass in numbers. super basic but didnt have too much time today. I think im gonna try and implement a working command tonight, and then next time i can work on running interpreter on the server script (which i assume will be really easy in my replit thingy). once I get that done, I think i wanna go back to working on frontend stuff, specifically adding map view modes! eventually ill need to move to developing locally, since i need to look into getting the server to save data somewhere

🎨 started working on a command interpreter for my game. right now its literally just a switch case, but i got it iterating through everything correctly (i think). gonna work on getting it to interpret actual complex commands next, and then probably see if i can get the interpreter working in the server script. my end goal is to have it so that players push commands to the interpreter and they are all run in order at the end of the game cycle (when the next turn starts). extremely archaic methinks but i am a noob

Completely reworked my website to use Notion (through fruitionsite.com) , I think it looks clean and it's super easy for me to manage. Feel free to take a look at polar.blue

My ISP has tried to gaslight me into thinking that having a simple Apache server at home is too much for my “residential router” to handle. Obviously, bullshit. So I disconnected it and turned it off, proving them wrong. I also checked the router’s diagnostics and it seems like the issue lays with the optic fibre cables, since we are not receiving the correct intensity. (screenshot showing pings to Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 and Google, IIRC). As you can see, with the server off, I still get about 50% dropped packets. IE: no internet half of the time.
