Learning FeatureScript, the internal scripting language for OnShape! It is HARD, but I'm making progress and my first feature is almost done. It's a tool for generating a specific kind of mate I designed for joining 3D printed parts with steel pins. Creating this mate would be a complex operation with dozens of steps if done manually, but using FeatureScript I can make it a one-click operation ^_^

aight screw it I missed the boat on this challenge when it launched but now I’m gonna do… 19 days!! My one big goal is to finish this CAD project I started for a friend, who wants an anchor in her apartment ceiling for training aerial performance.

Did a mind-numbing amount of sanding last weekend to put a finish on this live-edge slice of black walnut for a table. Band-sanded with 80 grit sandpaper, then a random orbital sander at 100, 180, 240, 320, and 400 grit, then 3 coats of boiled linseed oil over the course of 2 days, then a final coat sanded in with 600 grit, and finally hand-sanded with 1500 grit for a satin sheen.

Once I knew the exact structure of the ceiling I could do these much more detailed models of the steel anchor frames. We designed the single-crossbar version first, but will probably go with the the square version. They will be held up there by 3/8”x8” lag screws. I used an online structural engineering fastener load calculator to calculate a load rating of about 750lbs per screw. So with 8 of those screws, that square design will be rated for 6000lbs!

Had to drill holes in the ceiling to figure out what exactly we can anchor to in this apartment. It’s an old converted industrial building (used to be a Wonderbread bakery lol) so it turns out the ceiling is basically solid lumber under the drywall, unlike a normal modern building which would be lumber joists every 16 inches. This is great because it means we will have a much easier time fastening the extremely safety-critical steel anchor frames up there.

This mural was floating around the dirty Box Shop for probably at least a year, so I scrubbed it with a power drill brush to get all the grime off. Then I rinsed it down with a pressure washer. Important to keep the pressure washer at least like a foot away to avoid damaging the paint.

My friend needed a kitchen counter, so I bought a broken coffee table for $10, saved the hardwood top, sanded it, rounded the corners, stained it, and we put it on this old dresser. Not bad for scrap materials and a few hours

Just picked up 70 empty vanilla flavoring jugs today. Car smells great. Remember everyone: ALWAYS REDUNDANTLY SECURE YOUR LOADS. You can never have enough ratchet straps. And check them as you drive! During one of my checks today, I discovered the temperature drop after sunset caused the containers to shrink a bit, loosening the straps. Never would’ve been able to anticipate that!

Just picked up three 55gal water drums. On my way to get a fourth. Note the arrangement of straps: using 3 straps, every barrel is redundantly secured. If any single strap fails, the barrels all stay on. Always safely secure your loads, it is a life-or-death matter for drivers behind you!

Today I got a CAT B35 with KaiOS. This phone and operating system are amazing.
