WHW Day 10/10!!!
Wow I cant believe it's the last day!! I'm sad that I didn't fully complete my project because my brother couldn't fix his 3D machine and began to print part of my model today at the local community college and so the full model would be finished next week monday. This kind of snowballed into some other problems because the 3D printer there cant print really big pieces so my dog house model is trashed and I'm printing the model from the guide I used. This also means that the breadboard I got wouldn't fit and I cant add a switch. Besides that, I'm proud of what I accomplished in these 10 days as someone trying out a hardware project for the first time. I'll officially finish this project sometime next week and I'll make sure to update here! I'm really grateful that Hack Club hosted this event and hopefully I can attempt this project again in the future with a better understanding of soldering and 3D designing!
Day 9 of WHW
Finished setting up Arduino Libraries and code changes!! Stayed up to finish this lol but I hope it still counts at d9. Anyways, I'm ready to sleep!
Day 8 WHW:
I finally figured out how to tin but I’m still far from finishing the connection circuit 😭 I had so many failed attempts. I got started on my code and downloaded the API and software! Tomorrow is a snow day for me so most of it will be me finishing up this project!
Day 7 of WHW:
After working on my project and the circuit connection and wondering why it was so hard to get the wires connected I watched a couple YouTube videos and realized that I wasn’t fraying the wires enough. Today was much of a learning day for me as I worked a lot on trying to connect the LED to my connecting wires. I’m getting a head ache from the fumes (lol) so I’m done for today. I’m glad I figured out what I did wrong so I can finish it tomorrow. My brother said he will print my 3D model tomorrow so hopefully that will be done soon! Here a photo of my mistake lol
Day 6 of WHW:
Soldering is still super challenging… only managed to solder one black connecter. Thanks to people in the hardware party i figured out how to solder them together but I don’t have enough hands…holding down the connecting wire, putting the soldering wire against it and soldering it is super difficult with two hands. My parents and my brother were busy today so I couldn’t get any help from them but my brother agreed to help me tomorrow.
Day 5 of WHW
Today my goal was to do my circuit connection but it wasn’t going as planned because my wires weren’t soldering to my LED strips. I posted a question a couple minutes ago in the hardware-party chat. Im also working on adding a button to control the LED so I watched a couple videos to understand the process. I’m determined to finish the circuit connection by tomorrow so I can move on loll
Day 4 of winter wonderland! I finished my 3D design! I used a model y reddadsteve made on thingiverse and modified it! My brothers trying to fix his 3D printer but if he doesn't fix it in time for next week I'll print out my stuff at the nearby college.
Day 3 of winter wonderland! ❄️
Today I worked more on my 3D model and I’m almost done! (Might be a couple days until I can print bc my brother…) anyways, before I solder the led to my WizFi360 I tried out the soldering kit I got but I didn’t have anything to practice soldering on so I used tiny pieces of soldering wire that was in the kit to try to solder things together. I also tried soldering an electrical wire but it didn’t work. The soldering iron is way stronger than I expected and burned easily through the soldering wire and burned the case of the kit…the smell was terrible too lmao…Im worried I might burn through my project when I start soldering… I’ll practice more!! 💪 pls pm me if anyone has any advice with soldering lol
Day 2 of winter wonderland!!
I worked more on my 3D model, I used a model and modified it to fit my project-changed the size, added a wall, added a sign, added 'bushes. I wanted to test run a 3D print but turns out the belt of my my brothers 3D printer isn’t working…he got a replacement but I won’t be able to test until then…I should've tried it out before...it's okay since I have time. Tomorrow I'll finish my model and try out my soldering kit!
Day 1 of Winter Wonderland
For the rest of this week I'm going to focus on designing my 3D printing model and printing it successfully. Today I didn't have a lot of free time but I made a basic model on tinkercad of what I want the doghouse to look like.
